Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
PPE Regulation (EU) 2016/425
The PPE Regulation sets out requirements for the design and manufacture of personal protective equipment to ensure user health and safety. All PPE placed on the EU market must comply with this regulation.
PPE Categories
- Category I — Simple design PPE protecting against minimal risks (e.g., gardening gloves)
- Category II — PPE protecting against medium risks (e.g., safety helmets)
- Category III — Complex design PPE protecting against serious risks (e.g., respiratory protection)
Conformity Assessment
- Category I: Internal production control (Module A)
- Category II: EU type-examination (Module B) + Conformity to type (Module C)
- Category III: EU type-examination (Module B) + Production quality assurance (Module D) or Product verification (Module F)
